8/8 Daily Roundup
Posted by Greg under Uncategorized- Injuries are the theme of today’s articles. Joe McDonald of nysportsday.com gives an overview. The injuries include Derrick Ward (broken foot), Chris Snee (knee), Lavar Arrington (knee), Carlos Emmons (stinger), William Joseph (leg bruise), and Sinorice Moss (strained quad). With the exception of Ward and Snee, though, all of the injuries are minor.
- But the bad news about the injuries isn’t so bad. Mike Garafolo writes that Snee and Ward should be back by opening night. In the meantime, Rich Seubert is a very capable backup at guard.
- Paul Schwartz notes that Ward sustained his injury when he slipped in his cleats on the rec. center floor.
- Garafolo profiles Tight End Wade Fletcher, a free agent tight end out of Columbia representing the Upper West Side. He also notes that the Webster-Madison cornerback tandem is starting to look good, and that Barry Cofield is practicing behind William Joseph at Defensive Tackle. As Garafolo writes, “Cofield was thought to be a candidate at the starting nost tackle spot, but has clearly pleased the coaches enough to work at both positions.” Good – this guy can be a valuable player. Any relation to Holden Caulfield?
- Garafolo on the tantalizing but star-crossed Tim Carter. Ernie Accorsi put it well when he explained why the Giants re-signed Carter in spite of the injury problems: ”I didn’t want to go home Sunday night and see him catching touchdowns for another team.” Indeed, some guys are so talented that you have to stick with them. Let’s hope he stays healthy, but if he doesn’t, Moss should be ready to step in.
- Times piece on Jay Feely, who rooms with Lavar Arrington and Brandon Short at Albany. They play chess and talk politics deep into the night – looks like Short and Lavar are Democrats while Feely’s a pretty big Repub. Classic picture of Tiki for the article also also.
- Outstanding practice report from Dan Benton over at Giants 101.
