I dont think keeping Coughlin is that bad a move. I think the off-def coordinators need to go more than anyone. Lets remember, when Tom was hired there where hardy any good def coord to choose from and Tim Lewis was just fired from the Steelers.

I see many coordenators around the NFL come up with better schemes and play better ball with less talent. I know Moss was hurt most of the season but could we hit him with just ONE slant. As far as Eli goes, I was a big supporter but fading fast.

A few things-Plax bails his butt out all the time. His throws are ducks many times. Do you EVER see him hit a reciever in stride with a crisp bullet. Hardly.

Agree that relief describes the end, but after suffering through the last eight weeks, feel like the knife has just been twisted by reading that Coughlin will probably stay. Aren't the Knicks enough of a cross for any one fan to bear...?

nice writeup, and Will Demps has killed me all season, I'm pretty sure he is the worst safety I've ever seen.

OK, the Giants didn't deserve to win, nor did they have any business being in the playoffs in the first place. But I still can't get over those bullshit "offsetting" penalties on Runyan and Cofield. As far as I'm concerned, when a guy takes TWO gratuitous dirty shots at your teammates IN A ROW, you have the right to shove him back without drawing a personal foul. Even if Cofield deserves one flag, Runyan should be hit with two. After all, his second cheap shot came AFTER the refs had thrown a flag for his first. This should be grounds for an ejection, but at minimum it should be 15 yards on top of 15 yards. You give the Eagles 2nd and 25 there and in all likelihood they don't score on that drive.

Think about the incentives too. After you've already been flagged for taking a cheap shot, you basically have free reign to whack other people, and every incentive to try to provoke an "offsetting" response.

Why not just exempt personal fouls from the "offsetting penalties" rule and have them be tacked on in succession? 15 yards forward, 30 yards back. The Giants should propose this to the NFL this off-season.

That first pass to Plax had every right to be intercepted.

And the pass in overtime the first game at Philly was a prayer where he threw off his back foot. This is his MO now.

My big thing with Eli is he is even inaccurate while making completions. How many times has Shockeyor Plax oreven Tyree or Carter been open on a cross or seam pass, only to have to break stride, stop and catch a ball that is behind him.

Burress has made some unbelievable catches this season, without these plays, even Archie himself wouldn't fight the deserved benching.

ELI: I don't think he's the answer. I think he has a below average arm, consistently missing his receivers on easy 10-15 yard plays. He fails to pickup open receivers. How many times this season have we seen Shockey or Plax work their way open and Eli doesn't see them and throws a bad pass out to the flat, missing that receiver by a mile? Garcia was rifling bullets to receivers covered high and low and just drilling it in there. Eli doesn't do this at all. Even Phil Simms, who I thought had a so-so arm - nothing like Marino or Elway or even Peyton, had a stronger arm than Eli.

Giants, start looking for a new QB.

Off With His Head!

Seriously, The Colonel has proven one thing: He can't coach this group of guys. It's easy to agree with the logic that brought the Colonel to the G-men: The G-men had been carrying around a reputation of having a catty lockeroom that catered to the stars for many years, and thrusting an old-school disciplinarian into the mix seemed like a sensible remedy. But in retrospect, it's absurd to think that the Colonel could usher in an era of discipline amongst a team of flashy personalities. Unfortunately, this is because of Tom's own shortcomings.

A true recipe for success on a football team is a brand of facism that says, quite simply, "team before everything." But I guess Tom misread the memo from Mousillini: The trains are supposed to run on time, not 15 minutes early. Seriously though, the Colonel's insistence on setting the clocks 15 minutes early during training camp encapsulates how out of touch this guy is with his surroundings.

Maybe, just maybe, this sort of rigid discipline could work in a smaller market where the players tend to stay out of the media, but here in New York... gimme a break! Tell me Tom, did you really think that these superstars (who regularly grace the back page of the Post), were going to respond favorably to being forced to show up to practice 15 minutes early? They hadn't even met you yet!!! These guys have egos Tom, they've earned these egos, and frankly, it's a part of what has made them kick ass on Sundays for the greater parts of their lives. Any idiot knows that egos and discipline don't mix easily. I guess you realized too late that getting the guys to respond to your brand of coaching is a delicate process that can't be rammed down a team's throat.

How many times has the Colonel been ripped by his players in the media? And what are the repurcussions? None! That's because it's a hollow brand of discipline that the fallen Colonel preaches. Ultimately, the Colonel can't do shit, and nobody knows it better than the players themselves. They prove it when they publicly criticize him in the media and they prove it when they committ mental errors on Sunday. They don't fear you Tom, they don't even respect you.

The one play nobody seems to be talking about it Madison's dropped "Pick Six" early in the first QB.

We had the Feebles pushed back inside their own 10, and Garcia threw an ill-advised pass in Madison's direction. He had an opportunity to make the interception and could have walked in to the end zone from there. But instead, in typical Giants fashion, he couldn't hold on to the ball.

Even though the Giants forced a punt on that series, it was a HUGE missed opportunity.

Blame Tim Lewis or the defensive backs coach, or even Ernie Accorsi if you want to, but something has got to be done about the butterfingeredness of our DBs and LBs. This shit has been going on for years now. Time and time again our defensive players are found in positions to make big plays but for whatever reason they never seem to be able to make the play.

After we cut the Wills loose, the consensus was that they'd be replaced by players who were more sure-handed, but clearly that hasn't happened.

It also doesn't help that Will Demps can't tackle anybody and that Carlos Emmons is finished.

You forgot to mention Eli winging a dart into the turf low and behind an open Sinorice Moss in the end zone on 3rd down down by 10. Any competent QB should have been able to complete that pass.
