Needless to say, NYGMen is not pleased with the announcement. Just when you thought the bombardment of bad news was over, now comes this. There’s obviously a lot more to say about this, but I’m at work right now and I don’t really have time to get into it. But expect a not-so-lucid rant in the near future, provided I don’t commit a felony before the day is out.
In the interest of fairness, let me put this to any reader who cares to chime in: Does anyone think this is a good move? If so, please explain.

It’s an atrocious decision, which has me very bummed out. There’s no explaining it other than the perceived dearth of coaching talent out there. On the other hand, there have got to be more Mangenius-esque assistants out there. To think we once could have had Sean Payton.
What does everyone make of Mara’s criticism of Eli? Pretty blistering.

I agree that the only possible explanation is that Mara wants to wait it out for Cower or whoever else isn’t available, but that doesn’t make any sense to me. Don’t they care about winning NOW? It’s one thing to get young players and to call it a building year, but it’s another thing to keep a crappy front office and to give the season up before its even started.

I have to agree with Jake on this. It’s January, and already Giant fans have to come to terms with the prospect (probability?) of another season of crappy play calling, bush-league qb work, and players mouthing off. Great job guys, way to blow it. Might as well promote someone from within the front office to GM now and complete this disaster.

What could possibly explain the one-year extension through 2008? That Coughlin needs it so he’s not a complete lame duck next year? Couldn’t we have at least put him on the Isiah Thomas show-results-this-year-or-you’re-out-on-your-ass employment plan?
