The Dallas Cowboys had two weeks to stew over a blowout loss to New Orleans that was their worst since Jason Garrett took over as coach three years ago. They have almost as long to ponder their response - consecutive wins that will have Dallas either holding or sharing the NFC East lead and seeking to end a three-year playoff drought going into the final quarter of the season. The Cowboys (7-5) start a 10-day break with four days off after a 31-24 Thanksgiving victory against Oakland, overcoming a slow start and building on the momentum of a last-play win at the New York Giants that answered the demoralizing night in New Orleans. ''We were coming off an emotional win four days ago,'' said cornerback Brandon Carr, who was burned early against the Raiders but bounced back with an interception in the end zone with Oakland driving for a potential tying score in the fourth quarter.
ALAMEDA – Matt McGloin will remain the Raiders starting quarterback. While the undrafted rookie is expected to start Dec. 8 against the New York and could retain that role indefinitely, coach Dennis Allen wants to further evaluate his young quarterbacks before the season’s out. That means, at some point, Terrelle Pryor is going to play. He was decommissioned after a disastrous Nov. 10 loss to the New York Giants, when he kept the gravity of a sprained right MCL from the coaching staff, played poorly and then used injury as an excuse in a fateful postgame press conference.
Dennis Allen's second season as coach of the Oakland Raiders is starting to look a lot like his first - and that's not necessarily a good thing. A year ago, the Raiders were 3-4 and showing signs of progress before stumbling down the stretch with eight losses over the final nine games, including a stretch of six straight. Oakland's 31-24 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving was its fourth in five weeks after what had been another encouraging 3-4 start. The Raiders have blown second-half leads in three of the losses during their recent slide and five overall this season.
New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and cornerback Trumaine McBride have been ruled out for Sunday night's road game against the Washington Redskins. Coach Tom Coughlin announced after practice Friday that backup running back Brandon Jacobs and cornerback Corey Webster also will miss the game. Receiver Hakeem Nicks, who missed last week's game with Dallas, practiced fully and is probable for the game. Pierre-Paul, the NFC defensive player of the week after a clinching interception return against Green Bay earlier this month, reinjured his shoulder.

Times are tough for the last two champions of the NFC East. Instead of fighting to reach the postseason, the New York Giants and Washington Redskins are battling to avoid last place in the division entering Sunday night's meeting at FedEx Field. These teams met last December in a prime-time showdown that Washington won 17-16 en route to its first NFC East crown since 1999. New York finished one game back with a 9-7 mark - its eighth straight season with at least a .500 record after capturing the Super Bowl in its previous campaign.
