Roddy White has every intention of retiring as a career Falcon. ''That would be ideal, to walk out of that locker room and come out of the tunnel in the new stadium and play a game there,'' White said Wednesday. Atlanta hasn't used the four-time Pro Bowl receiver much in its first season under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.
New England still controls its own destiny in clinching home-field advantage through the AFC playoffs, but the alarming part might be that it hasn't already been wrapped up. Week 17 holds relevance for the Patriots, if only because of a questionable decision in their latest loss, though it seems unlikely Sunday's visit to Miami will hinge on a coin toss. The Patriots (12-3) have already clinched a first-round bye, but Denver can still pass them for the top seed with a home victory over four-win San Diego and a New England loss.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee interim coach Mike Mularkey wishes he had more time with the Titans.
Ah, the Black and Blue Division. We remember it well.
With so much of the NFL playoff picture decided, it's tempting to write off Week 17 as a mere speedbump before the postseason or offseason, depending on the team. But it turns out that the would-be meaningless divisional matchup between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles holds some weight after all: the right to avoid traveling to London next year. The 2016 season will feature six (!) London games, and one of those will pit the third-place team in the NFC East against the corresponding team in the NFC West. With the St. Louis Rams locked into one of the slots, and both the Eagles and Giants sitting at 6-9, the loser of Sunday's game will be packing their bags to cross the pond, as the New York Daily News notes . [ Yahoo Daily Fantasy: $10 could win you $20K in our $200K contest for Week 17 ] Of course, winning the game isn't a guarantee of an easy date. The second-place team gets to face the Seahawks in Seattle. But at least that team won't have to pack passports (or toilet paper, as the Jets did prior to their trip to England this year ). The London trips build the NFL's brand and are a welcome extra game on the NFL freak's viewing schedule when they show up at 9:00 a.m. Eastern, but teams must undergo herculean logistics challenges and work through practice-day disruptions and significant travel hurdles. Serving as a football ambassador is nice, but for most teams, playing stateside is more welcome. Chip Kelly went three-and-out - much like his inconsistent offense. Kelly was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday night with one game left in his third season, completing a dramatic drop for a coach who was heavily recruited and lauded as an offensive genius only a couple years ago. Kelly was dumped after missing the playoffs for the second straight season and failing miserably in his first year in charge of personnel.
Everyone has to start somewhere.
The Washington Redskins were a unanimous pick to finish last in the NFC East before Jay Gruden picked Kirk Cousins to start over RG3.
The Philadelphia Eagles fired Kelly Tuesday night with one game left in his third season, dumping the coach/personnel boss after missing the playoffs in consecutive years. Kelly was released before the finale of a disappointing season that began with Super Bowl expectations. The Eagles are 6-9 after going 10-6 two years in a row.
