National Football League fans hungry for the Super Bowl 50 showdown between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos got an appetizer with the Pro Bowl exhibition in Hawaii. As the Panthers and Broncos arrived in San Francisco, shifting the center of the NFL universe to the Bay Area, league stars whose teams didn't make it to the February 7 championship spectacle strutted their stuff Sunday at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu -- where the all-star team captained by former Dallas Cowboys great Michael Irvin defeated the team captained by former 49ers legend Jerry Rice 49-27.
With no Super Bowl trip this season for the Seattle Seahawks, their stars came to play - and dominate - at the Pro Bowl. Russell Wilson threw three first-half touchdown passes to lead Team Irvin to a 49-27 victory over Team Rice on Sunday and earn offensive MVP honors at Aloha Stadium. Seattle teammate Michael Bennett was the defensive MVP after having the game's only sack and deflecting a pass.
The famous veejay changed the way the "game" was covered so much that it's fair to wonder why Media Day took so long to enter prime time.
From Joe Namath raising his finger toward the sky to David Tyree’s “Helmet Catch”, the Super Bowl is a history book of indelible moments that lead to next Sunday's 50th edition. When the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos face off in Santa Clara, California, the suspense will be palpable. Created as a deciding crown between the National Football League and American Football League champions, in 1967, Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers captured the first two played, earning a place in lore and the famous coach’s name on thetrophy.

A sampling of the responses from 100 NFL players surveyed by The Associated Press about injuries:
Police are reportedly investigating an attempted rape accusation against New York Giants defensive tackle Jay Bromley stemming from an incident early Saturday morning. The New York Daily News and New York Post said Bromley, a 23-year-old defensive tackle who made 36 tackles in 16 games for the Giants this past season, is accused of trying to rape a 26-year-old woman and hitting her with his car while fleeing a hotel room.
The football that Johnny Unitas threw to Raymond Berry for a touchdown in the historic 1958 NFL Championship game is being sold at auction. Known by many as ''The Greatest Game Ever Played,'' the duel between the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants was the first NFL title game to extend to sudden-death overtime. Berry caught 12 passes for 178 yards for the Colts in their 23-17 victory.
Archie Manning speaks deliberately and carefully when addressing whether his 39-year-old son, Peyton, might be playing his final NFL game when he returns to the Super Bowl. ''This is Peyton's fourth one - certainly could be his last one, so we're going to try to enjoy it,'' Archie Manning, who lives in New Orleans, said this week in an interview with The Associated Press. ''There's a lot of speculation that Peyton will retire.
