Colin Kaepernick plans to sit through the national anthem for as long as he feels is appropriate and until he sees major change in America, specifically when it comes to race relations. Two days after he refused to stand for the ''The Star Spangled Banner'' before the 49ers' preseason loss to the Packers, Kaepernick said his stand will continue. Kaepernick insists his stand is not against men and women in the military fighting for Americans' rights and freedoms.
Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Sunday that quarterback Tony Romo will wear a back brace during his recovery time from the compression fracture in his vertebra. Romo is expected to be sidelined anywhere from six to 10 weeks after he suffered the L1 compression fracture during Thursday night's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Garrett said Romo's rehab will consist of rest and immobility but the coach refused to rule him out for the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants.
Dak Prescott grew up rooting for the Dallas Cowboys in Louisiana. Receiver Brice Butler believes the fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State pictured this years ago. Now he's the starting quarterback,'' Butler said Sunday.
Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan believes standing for the national anthem is a way for NFL players and coaches to show respect and give thanks to members of the armed forces. ''You've got to look at the gifts that we have, the opportunity that we have to play a great game is through the men and women that serve our country,'' Ryan said before practice on Sunday. Without specifically mentioning Kaepernick, Ryan said he can appreciate how some players have personal or religious beliefs that lead them to not stand for the anthem.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Wide receivers Rueben Randle and Chris Givens have been released by the Philadelphia Eagles.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick understood his national anthem protest would draw some attention and criticism. Kaepernick will continue to sit during the national anthem, he told 49ers reporters on Sunday. Chris Biderman, who covers the team for The Niners Wire, a part of the USA Today network, reported that Kaepernick addressed the team.
Christian Hackenberg jogged onto the field at MetLife Stadium to cheers from New York Jets fans who had been waiting all summer to see the rookie quarterback play. The second-round draft pick from Penn State threw a touchdown pass on his first drive in an up-and-down NFL debut in the Jets' 21-20 loss to the Giants on Saturday night. After Hackenberg replaced Bryce Petty early in the fourth quarter, he got off to an inauspicious start with two incomplete passes and a delay-of-game penalty.
Victor Cruz really didn't care about his statistics after the Giants played the Jets in their annual preseason game. It was unproductive, yet Cruz could not help but smile after the Giants' 21-20 win on Saturday night. Cruz had played in a game for the first time since the 2014 season, and that's all that mattered to the wideout who was one of the NFL's most feared receivers from 2011-13.
The NFL and/or the New York Giants aren’t very good at public records requests, it seems. “He drove by the house and I looked in the rearview mirror,” his wife wrote in her statement to police, according to USA Today. “Josh knows about the order and cannot come within 500 feet form the house.
The last four teams to play for the NFC championship have the same goal: Super Bowl or bust. It's a smart bet one of the four teams will be in Houston playing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February. Reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton led the Panthers to a 17-1 record before Von Miller and the Broncos stifled them in the Super Bowl.
