The worst of the bye weeks have arrived for fantasy football players. Six teams are on bye in Week 8: the Rams, Dolphins, Giants, Steelers, 49ers and Ravens.
Brown was left home from the Giants’ game against the Los Angeles Rams in London in Week 7 and was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list by the NFL, granting the team a roster spot to replace him. Giants co-owner John Mara explained (via ESPN) why the team released Brown now and not when the allegations of abuse first surfaced, or after the shocking documents in which Brown admitted he abused his wife were released by the King County (Wash.) Sheriff’s Office.

Former New York Giants kicker Josh Brown, whom the NFL placed on the commissioner’s exempt list following the release of troubling documents that detailed an abusive relationship with his ex-wife, has issued a statement shortly before the Giants released him. “I am sorry that my past has called into question the character or integrity of The New York Giants, Mr. Mara or any of those who have supported me along the way. In the interim, I am cooperating with the Giants and the NFL.

Although Jared Goff still isn't getting the keys to the Los Angeles Rams' offense, the No. 1 draft pick will get to take it for a spin. Goff will get increased practice time with the first-team offense during the Rams' current bye week and again next week before their game against Carolina, coach Jeff Fisher said Monday. While Case Keenum will remain Los Angeles' starting quarterback, Goff has a chance to master the details necessary to gain Fisher's approval.
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has a torn ACL and is out for the season. Coach Todd Bowles said on Monday that an MRI confirmed the tear. Smith will visit with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday to seek a second opinion, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.
The Baltimore Ravens entered their bye week with a four-game losing streak, a broad injury list and the fleeting hope that it's not too late to salvage the season. Baltimore's 3-0 start has been offset by its longest skid since coach John Harbaugh took the job in 2008. The low point came Sunday in a 24-16 loss to the Jets, who entered with a 1-5 record.
The New York Giants have started discussions about placekicker Josh Brown and his future with the team a day after returning from a game in London. Coach Ben McAdoo said Monday that the team's front office met to talk about Brown, and that he would probably join those talks either later in the evening or on Tuesday morning. The NFL placed Brown on paid leave Friday after the kicker disclosed in journals and emails released by authorities in the state of Washington that he abused his then-wife.
