When Jon Halapio joined the New York Giants' practice squad in 2016, Brett Jones was one of the first guys to welcome him. Jones had joined the Giants the previous year as a center in trying to make the jump from the CFL to the NFL, and he appreciated when some new teammates made him feel welcome. Why not do the same for Halapio?

The Buffalo Bills continue shuffling their defensive front during the first week of training camp by signing end Ryan Russell. Russell is listed at 6-foot-5 and 267 pounds, and has three seasons of NFL experience, including the past two with Tampa Bay. Odighizuwa was attempting to resume his career after missing all of last season, when he was cut by the New York Giants shortly after being issued a four-game NFL suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancers.

Eventually, police announced the body was that of 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene, a family friend who was living at the Jenkins home. A day later, police charged William Jenkins’ Jr., Janoris Jenkins’ brother, with aggravated manslaughter.

New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire will miss three to six weeks after suffering a fractured foot in Friday's first training camp practice, according to ESPN. McGuire, a second-year pro, is expected to have surgery this week. "I'm sure it's tough for him going into his second year," Jets coach Todd Bowles said Saturday of McGuire.

Coming off a troubling season, New York Giants cornerback Eli Apple seemingly has grown up. It's been coming since Pat Shurmur was named coach and Dave Gettleman took as general manager. ''It is definitely important for me, first impressions,'' Apple said.
