Rhett Ellison is never going to step into the New York Giants' lineup at tight end and make people forget Evan Engram. The 29-year-old Ellison is an old-time tight end. Engram is the more modern version of a tight end.

While there is a chance Drew Brees and Eli Manning will get involved in one of those 30-plus shootouts when the New Orleans Saints face the New York Giants this weekend, it's more likely a defense is going to determine the winner. The 39-year-old Brees and the Saints (2-1) are coming into MetLife Stadium on Sunday averaging more than 34 points. New York has not scored 30 points since the final game of Tom Coughlin's coaching tenure in 2015.

The New Orleans Saints have had little issue lighting up the scoreboard with star quarterback Drew Brees at the helm, piling up an NFC-best 104 points through three games. Brees and the Saints (2-1) aim to continue their high-scoring ways on Sunday when they visit MetLife Stadium to face the New York Giants (1-2). The 39-year-old Brees earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the 23rd time in his career after a five-touchdown performance in New Orleans' 43-37 overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

At 39, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees seems to have pulled the lithium batteries out of his clock on the wall. At 37, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who has two Super Bowl rings to Brees' one, is trying his best to keep pace with a respected elder. The battle of two quarterbacks with New Orleans connections - and quarterbacks who are inspirations for those with gray, thinning or no hair - will highlight Sunday's game between the Saints (2-1) and Giants (1-2) at MetLife Stadium.

On his 3,102nd pitch of a special season, Jacob deGrom was determined to reach one more milestone, rather than letting it linger until next year. Now deGrom will wait a few more weeks to see if his remarkable run will win him the National League's top pitching prize. DeGrom was dominant in what almost certainly was his last pitch for the Cy Young Award, throwing eight stellar innings and leaving with a major league-best 1.70 ERA as the New York Mets blanked the Atlanta Braves 3-0 on Wednesday.

Hanging on a hook in David Wright's locker, above the baseball spikes and opposite the helmets of his favorite football teams, the New York Giants and Virginia Tech Hokies, was a blue and orange Mets cap and white jersey with pinstripes. After countless hours of rehab during an arduous comeback, Wright was reinstated from the disabled list Tuesday and added to New York's active roster for the first time since June 3, 2016. It's been a long time coming and I can't wait to put that jersey on tonight, for sure,'' Wright said.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears . Jameis Winston reported back to the team on Tuesday, giving the team access to its usual starter, after his three-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick started during Winston's absence and became the first quarterback in NFL history to threw for 400 or more yards in three consecutive games, leaving Koetter with an intriguing dilemma.

The Jaguars only last one week in the top spot, and now we have a new AFC team getting a turn at No. 1. The Saints made the biggest jump up, while the 49ers lost their franchise QB and had the biggest drop. And the Patriots have fallen “all the way”—by

The Bills destroyed the Vikings! The Lions took out the Patriots! BAKER MAYFIELD! All this drama means there are a lot of big movers in this week’s Fun Power Rankings, including  a very new look top 10, and a new team at the bottom too. The San Francisco 49ers’ hopes of a revival all hinged on Jimmy Garoppolo - we knew as much last season when he turned their fortunes around within seconds of entering the line-up.
