The Miami Dolphins made a surprising move on Monday when they parted ways with offensive coordinator Chad O'Shea less than a year after O'Shea left New England for South Beach. Miami's decision to fire O'Shea comes at an interesting time, with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels once again being the subject of head-coaching rumors. McDaniels granted the Cleveland Browns' request for an interview on Monday, and both the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants have requested permission to interview McDaniels as well.

There was no word by late afternoon Monday from owner Jerry Jones on whether Garrett would return for a 10th full season. Garrett has an expiring contract, and after missing the postseason in six of those nine years, his owner and general manager has a difficult sell for fans on keeping him. In reflection, I'm very fortunate to have spent the time that I did with coach Garrett,'' seven-year center Travis Frederick said Monday in a locker room dotted with large plastic bags holding players' belongings.

Eli Manning said "everything's an option" but the New York Giants quarterback is not interested in spending another NFL season as backup to Daniel Jones, with retirement a possibility. Manning started the first two games of the season, however, the 38-year-old star took a backseat to rookie QB Jones in New York. A two-time Super Bowl champion and MVP, Manning made four appearances in total this term, while he was given a standing ovation in likely his last start at MetLife Stadium against the Miami Dolphins on December 15.

Eli Manning stood in front of his New York Giants locker for perhaps the final time Monday morning, sporting — of course — a conservative quarter-zip and the same laconic Southern accent that he brought to town 15 years ago. His contract is up, and he was asked if he'd consider returning to the Giants as a backup. What he should have said: “A backup?

Brian Flores wasn't the only member of the New England Patriots coaching staff to leave for the Miami Dolphins after the 2018 season. When Flores left the Patriots to become head coach of the Dolphins, he took Chad O'Shea with him to be Miami's offensive coordinator. O'Shea was the wide receivers coach in New England for a decade before departing for South Beach.

Each season, the dubious NFL tradition known as “Black Monday” leaves several head coaches without a job and, in some cases, their old employer on the hook to pay the remainder of their contracts. As of Monday at 4 p.m. ET, two NFL franchises had opted to fire their head coaches: the New York Giants, who parted ways with Pat Shurmur, and the Cleveland Browns, who cut ties with Freddie Kitchens. The Washington Redskins fired team president Bruce Allen, and a meeting later this week between Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan and head coach Doug Marrone is widely expected to result in his dismissal.

Andy Reid hinted the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants are interested in his Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The Panthers and Giants are without head coaches after sacking Ron Rivera and Pat Shurmur respectively. Highly rated offensive coordinator Bieniemy has been touted as a candidate for both teams, and Reid – whose Chiefs side on Sunday clinched a first-round bye for the playoffs – suggested the reports are true.

While it's probably not much comfort for Freddie Kitchens and Pat Shurmur, the NFL's normally torrid slate of head coach firings has been pretty mild so far in the wake of the league's final week of games. The Cleveland Browns, following a massively disappointing 6-10 season, let go of Kitchens on Sunday evening after just one tumultuous season that saw the long-suffering franchise fall well short of lofty expectations. The New York Giants announced Monday they're moving on from Pat Shurmur, whom they'll look to replace after just two unfruitful seasons.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without Brandon Brooks for their playoff campaign after the guard suffered a dislocated shoulder against the New York Giants. The Eagles clinched the NFC East and ensured their place in the playoffs with a 34-17 win over the Giants on Sunday. However, it came at a cost, with Pro Bowler Brooks dislocating his shoulder in the second quarter, while running back Miles Sanders also succumbed to an ankle issue and Daeshon Hall suffered a serious injury late on.
