New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski did not make the trip to Buffalo for Sunday's season opener against the Bills, according to NFL.com.
The Buffalo Bills want to do everything they can to help their rookie quarterback, E.J. Manuel, in his first NFL start against the New England Patriots. But the bigger concern might be assisting a secondary that will be without perhaps its two best players. The Bills are reporting that safety Jairus Byrd is doubtful with a foot injury and corner Stephon Gilmore is doubtful with a wrist injury. Gilmore was expected to be out for the next several weeks, but there had been hope that Byrd could return for the opener, which now looks to be in serious doubt. COMMENTARY | For the first time in what seems like forever, the AFC East is wide open and does not look to have a dominant team. Gone are the years where the New England Patriots and New York Jets could be expected to run the division leaving the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins at the bottom. This season, every team except the Jets projects to be able to make a run at the playoffs, and all have enough questions to make it impossible to be 100% confident in picking a winner.
Week 1 has started, and the NFL schedule for Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 features the New England Patriots against the Buffalo Bills.
COMMENTARY| The New England Patriots recently culled their roster to get within the league-mandated limit of 53 players in time for the start of the 2013 regular season. While many of the choices were undoubtedly tough ones, there are some players let go that the team may ultimately regret cutting.
The New England Patriots released quarterback Tim Tebow on Saturday, placed veteran safety Adrian Wilson on injured reserve and will keep tight end Rob Gronkowski on their 53-man roster, according to reports.
