Wide receiver Julian Edelman, a Bay Area native, is scheduled to visit the 49ers on Friday, a source confirmed. The 49ers will meet with Edelman at the team's Santa Clara facility, and the club also has interest in New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, ESPN reported. Edelman, a five-year veteran from Kent State, caught 105 passes for 1,056 yards and four touchdowns with the New England Patriots last season.

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms with former Detroit Lions defensive end Willie Young on a three-year contract and former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Domenik Hixon on a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday. NFL.com reported Young's deal is for $9 million with $4 million in guarantees. Bears general manager Phil Emery has now added six unrestricted free agents in the first 48 hours of free agency, with Young and Hixon following defensive end Lamarr Houston (Raiders), safety Ryan Mundy (Giants) and linebacker Jordan Senn (Panthers) on Tuesday and safety M.D. Jennings (Packers) on Wednesday.

The Bills are reporting that safety Jairus Byrd is doubtful with a foot injury and corner Stephon Gilmore is doubtful with a wrist injury. Gilmore was expected to be out for the next several weeks, but there had been hope that Byrd could return for the opener, which now looks to be in serious doubt.
